Exclusive Provider Networks

Within the context of recent workers’ compensation reform legislation, Exclusive Provider Networks (EPNs) are groupings of medical providers who are experienced in the treatment of workers’ comp related injuries. Employers select one or more networks and make doctors within those networks available to their injured employees.

As one of the nation’s leading workers’ compensation experts, Coventry Workers’ Comp Services has developed an EPN model that features providers experienced in treating work-related injuries, aggressive return-to-work programs, and that produces positive outcomes for the parties involved in the injury-claim continuum.

Coventry’s California MPN and Texas HCN networks are EPN networks that allow Coventry to help clients meet the regulatory requirements in these states.

California

Signed in 2004, California Senate Bill 899 brought about sweeping reforms designed to significantly reduce workers’ compensation costs in the state.  The legislation package allowed for the creation of Medical Provider Networks (MPN), which, once chosen by an employer, injured employees must seek treatment from physicians within the MPN.

Coventry’s MPN is uniquely positioned to help our clients solve their specific business challenges in workers’ compensation.  Our knowledge, expertise, and leading-edge technology distinguishes our approach to providing MPN services to our clients in California.

Texas

Texas House Bill 7 was enacted to reform a workers’ compensation system that has experienced double-digit cost increases at the same time it has seen injury decreases.  Texas HB7 allowed for the creation of Health Care Networks (HCNs). Employers choose a network of medical providers experienced in treating occupational injuries, and injured employees choose from those providers for treatment.

Coventry’s HCN networks are designed to provide greater control of injury care, reduce lost-time costs and improve medical only-lost time ratios.

Additionally, Coventry Workers’ Comp Services provides the Texas Star Network for the Texas Mutual Insurance Company as their workers’ compensation health care network in the state of Texas.
